The Window of a Musician
Sitarist . Composer . Sitar teacher
I began learning Indian Classical music at the age of eight at The Temple of Fine Arts in Malaysia. The passion for playing Sitar took me to Pune in India in 2002 where I had the opportunity to have my music education under the tutelage of Ustad Usman Khan, in the traditional ‘Gurukul’ style of learning.
Under my Guru's guidance, I was blessed to do my ‘Jaagruti’ or solo debut as a sitar performer. I have been teaching Sitar at the Temple of Fine Arts in Malaysia for almost 18 years and have participated in many orchestral ensembles. Amongst them are with the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia, Malaysian Traditional Orchestra and Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
As time went by, I started applying my creative side musically which was composing. My interest in music composition and teaching gave me the inspiration to pursue a M.Phil in Music Composition from Trinity College of Dublin and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. This led to my own musical productions which are Hrdaya- Hearstrings and Asli-Resonance in Our Roots. Take a look and my works!
